Countdown to 2005.....
I don't really want to do a countdown, so let's just skip it.
Guess it's time to update about the happenings.
1. I didn't post Christmas-related pictures.
2. I didn't celebrate Christmas!
Thursday 23/12/2004
This was an exciting day for me. Though work was rather tough, and it always happens that more work comes in when the day is about to end. The company was 'released' 1 hr earlier to have a farewell dinner for 2 of my colleagues at some Fish and Oysters (?) restuarant opposite clarke quay mrt station. The food sucked, Fish and Co's much better. But it was free anyway so I had 3 glasses of beer as well. After which I rushed home, got changed, took my stuffs and went to ska smelling like beer. I taught. And training was rather fun though I went easy. And then, we're off to chalet, but I had another can of beer along the way. Oh dear.
We reached downtown east at about 10.30pm, and while the rest were busy queueing up to pay the entrance fees, i noticed the side gate was open, and walked right through it saving a precious dollar. Ska members took over the bbqing from Mindy's relatives, and that would be our dinner as well. It was fun. And I had two plastic cups of Vodka and a red wine. The food was rather good, but the company was better.
At 3am, I vomitted. All the food came off mercilessly. And following was blood, fresh gushes of blood.
I thought: "Shit i'm vomitting blood." And I recalled that the windpipe must have got some abrasions from the vomitting. But it wasn't that simple. Quite a lot of blood followed.
At 5am, my senior drove me to Changi General Hospital's A&E.
I was shivering from dehydration as I waited for the registration procedures to be completed. The nurse called, asked my condition and type jargon into the computer and I was to wait for a doctor to call me again. So he called. I was asked the same questions, and apart from that I received an anal probe. Yeah. That's the price to pay for getting myself in ugly shape. My senior and another fellow karateka was giggling away. Damn it.
Oh yes did I mention that I was on wheelchair all the while? hahaha.
I got wheeled up to my ward after more procedures.
Class B1 Ward dunno what Bed dunno what. Air-conditioned, 4-person room. Got TV, but it doesn't work. I was supposed to be in Class C, but the wards were full, so I got to stay in B for free until there's room in C. Nothing to be proud of anyway.
Friday 24/12/2004
It's already Christmas Eve, and I haven't been checked on. At about 10am, I got another anal probe.....
Then Mr Wong called. He sounded so anxious, omg what have i done. Ska ppl started coming to see me. But I felt tired.
Complications started when I couldn't get my parents to sign the consent for my scope. I had so badly wanted the scope to be over and done with asap, but i couldn't get them. Good thing the hospital was kind enough to allow my brother to sign the consent in place of them.
At 2pm, I was transported in my bed to the.....operating theatre? I felt like a fucking real patient. In the OT, I was told to drink a solution which was the anaesthetic and another doctor sprayed another anaesthetic in my throat and it felt numb very quickly. Soon I was told to turn sideways, but no more anal probes. The doctors covered my eyes and soon the scope was brought out. It went down into my throat without my knowing and approval. All I could remember of the scope was hearing them saying: "Don't swallow, don't swallow." I reckon I must have interrupted the passage of the scope, so I tried hard not to swallow my saliva. But it was difficult cos I began to lose control of my senses. I remember one more scope going down my throat, and if i'm not wrong, there were a total of 3. Last thing I remember was I burped and gagged a lot and probably vomitted again cos i think i saw some substance coming out of my mouth and then they were wiping my mouth and I was knocked out.
I woke up at about 4pm to see my brother still sitting beside my bed. Told him to get back to work. And I probably fell asleep again.
I woke up to see my father beside me. And it was almost time to change back to my original ward. So I did, but my father decided to put me in Class B2 instead.
About 1 hour later, I was wheeled to Ward 49 Bed 12A.
My condition was: too forceful vomitting, resulting in a tear in my oesophagus, causing the bleeding.
The solution: Clipping up the wound using the scope.
Sometime at 7+ I asked my father to go back. And I fell asleep once more.
Throughout the night I was woken up constantly for medicine, injections, blood pressure, temperature taking. My Christmas Eve was spent just like that.
Saturday 25/12/2004
I thought I could go home. I wanted to celebrate Christmas badly, and at night was my cousin's wedding dinner.
But I had to stay another day for observation. The doctors are good at lying.
This day I spent in bed resting my ass more than any others in my whole life.
Sometime in the afternoon my relatives and parents came from the tea ceremony.
By then my drip was off and I could have soft diet.
After the repremandings and rantings, they all left, and I went back to rest.
5pm, the ska people came. They bought me a very nice card, shirt and perfume. Haha. Also a box of 6 bars of Cadbury chocolates. :o)
We talked for sometime and they left at around 7 for a movie. boo hoo hoo I was to be alone during Christmas. I bathed and did a lot of reading and went to bed.
I kept waking up every two hours cos I was too excited about my discharge.
Today 26/12/2004
I woke up rather early to bathe and read. And walked around the hospital. I had two eggs and two toasts and a coffee for breadfirst costing me $2.50.
Oh yeah the patient's food sucks so bad that they are probably worse than NS food.
I finally received news that I can be discharged by two pm.
I was very happy.
My parents arrived, my brother followed up, and finally the nurse removed the needle in my arm and the stupid patient tag.
I was a normal person once again.
I came home to do some admin stuffs, and then watched Sammo Hung's Gui Da Gui. Hahaha.
And then I went to Ska.
I apologised to Mr. Wong.
I miss training.
I made everyone who knew worried.
I realised my folly.
I bought food for everyone who trained today. And all of us had a long talk till 10pm.
I went home, had dinner, took half my medicine, missed my Da Ge Da show, and am typing this blog.
I want to bathe and shit already.
Christmas wasn't that bad after all.
I repent.
And I shall not drink for a time at least until CNY.
Merry belated Christmas, and Happy New Year to all~
