Firstly let me wish all Indians and Muslims a very Happy Deeparaya.
When was the last time you've ever done charity work? Work as in really work, not just calling 1900-XXX-XXXX to support the stunt or your favourite celebrity.
Recently, or rather, last friday, I led a group of approximately 50 people to Moral Home for the Disabled. Not that I volunteered, but was arrowed and am still quite sore about this. Damn that bitch. Anyway, imagine an inexperienced and ignorant and most importantly army-hating NSF officer, organising such an event, alone, for the brigade. It was a tough job considering I had only about a week to get everything done.
However, the experience was fucking good and enriching. In fact I wouldn't mind doing this for the whole of my army life, at least I learn useful things.
It's times like this that you reflect again on life.
The senior nurse there was so motherly and grateful to me.
And the residents there are 13-33 years old intellectually disabled. But they are almost just like normal. They even attend school. The home is spending quite a lot to adopt these children as their own and watch them grow up. We should help as far as possible. In fact I really do miss the kids there. Even though they might not recognise me when I do visit again.
Anyway just want to share that within one week I managed to collect $350 in monetary donations, about $300 worth of kinds donations, and macdonalds costing $168. Which I think is good.
And I also gained a mentor who came to my rescue without invitation or else I would still be stuck somewhere.
Do some good deeds.
Guess this is my most serious blog to date.
Take care all.
